FAQs for NPC-1 Starter Versions 1.0 through 1.5

The following answers apply to NPC-1 Starter versions 1.0 through 1.5 and related legacy device interfaces.

Question:

I cannot find the NPC-1 device using the Search button in the Search Network window. Where is my TCP/IP interface?

Answer:

Make sure your computer and the NPC-1 use the same subnet mask. The factory default subnet mask for the NPC 1 is 255.255.255.0. If you are connecting the NPC 1 with a crossover cable, use a fixed IP address on your computer, such as 192.168.0.95. The factory default IP address of the NPC-1 is 192.168.0.99.

Question:

I found the NPC-1 interface on the network. When I select the interface to view its settings, I receive the messages “Get Server information error” and “Login error, Please Refer Error Code,” with error codes minus 3 and minus 4. Is my configuration incorrect?

Answer:

A firewall may be blocking communication with the NPC-1. Make sure your firewall allows network traffic to and from the device. If your computer receives its IP address and subnet mask from a DHCP server, use a fixed IP address during the initial NPC-1 installation.

Question:

I cannot change the IP address on my computer to set up the NPC-1 interface. How can I configure the device?

Answer:

Use the NPC Setup Tool. This tool allows you to configure the NPC-1 through the RS-232 port of your computer. A null modem cable is required to connect the NPC-1 interface to the computer.

Question:

I want to control multiple projectors or plasma displays at the same time. NetControl Starter does not provide this capability. Which software supports control of multiple devices?

Answer:

NetControl Starter supports control of one projector at a time. To control multiple devices, use NetControl Advanced.

Question:

An older EIKI projector is connected to the NPC-1. NetControl supports the legacy model, but nothing happens when I try to control the projector. I am using the original serial cable supplied with the projector.

Answer:

In the original serial cable, pins 7 and 8 on the DB9 connector are shorted together. Both pins are connected to pin 5 on the 8-pin mini DIN connector.

The NPC-1 flow control setting is normally set to None. Because of this cable configuration, set flow control to RTS/CTS. To continue using the None setting, use a third party cable with only RxD, TxD, and GND connected.
