Optoma Demonstrates World’s First Wireless Virtual Reality HMD

Wireless Virtual Reality HMD

Optoma, a world leading manufacturer of video and audio products, today privately showcased at the Game Developer Conference 2016 the first wireless virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD).

Currently in testing, the OSVR-compatible wireless Optoma VR HMD for PC features a 5.46-inch full color AMOLED high-definition (1080P) display with a 90-degree field of view and near-zero latency. Precision wireless head tracking is achieved with a 2.4 GHz proprietary wireless signal, integrated receiver and USB-connected transmitter. The company plans to bring it to market later this year.

“We are constantly looking at what’s next in personal and home entertainment, and pushing technology and product innovation accordingly,” said Optoma President Robert Sterzing. “The next immersive and experiential frontier is virtual reality - we’ve been working tirelessly to develop a product that will open the market, and we believe wireless will be a key driver.”
